White Lies
Reclaims and redefines discomfort as the necessary land to stand on in order to question the roots of whiteness that sustain and maintain the colonial logics of our contemporary world.
This stage work utilizes the essence of stand up comedy to dialoge and maintain a live, dishonest dialogue with the audience, where everything is a lie, from the dramaturgical basis of global functioning, to the performing essence itself.
Through very serious stupid jokes, the individual identity of the white body is dissected and acknowledged as the collective identity of whiteness and consequent norm.
Or else, everything above written is a lie.
The artist’s ego could NOT stand being decentered from the conversation of decolonization, and this work is, on top of blatantly self-serving, just another way of performing thin white saviourism, for the artist to soothe their white guilt while not standing on the sideline.
