White Lies
‘People pissing’ reclaims and redefines discomfort as the necessary land to stand on, in order to question the roots of whiteness that sustain and maintain the colonial logics of our contemporary world.
Through very serious stupid jokes, the individual slips through the fractures of the collective white identity. The work utilizes the essence of stand up comedy, maintaining a live, dishonest dialogue with the audience, where everything is a lie, from the dramaturgical basis of global functioning, to the performing act itself.
OR ELSE, everything above written is a lie.
The artist’s ego could NOT stand being decentered from the conversation of decolonization, and this work is, on top of blatantly self-serving, just another way of performing thin white saviourism, for the artist to soothe their white guilt.
